When "Acceptable" Becomes "Unacceptable"

The growth of online learning has begun to require schools to use more computer usage now because of the technology that is being updated and developed everyday. Foreward educators are now putting new technologies to the service of innovative teaching and learning. Appleton eSchool is a virtual school that depends on the technology and developement of computers and technology itself to run its virtual school. Gaming on computers at this school is not aloud, but a game that could be related to an approved Algebra class could be appropriate for students to play. Websites are checked and then approved beefore students are aloud to use them. This is a very useful method so that students do not get on sites that are inappropriate for school. It is amazing to see that technology has come so far that now there are even virtual schools online for kids to go to. This is very good to see that schools are now able to be taken online, but still there are precautions that need to be taken to make sure that students will be using appropriate websites for their work.

  1. I agree that technology, when kept in check, can be harnessed to such use. However, the filter that is put upon students at Appleton prevents them from visiting certain sites. If that's not carefully monitored, it could block useful sites as well. Having to approve sites slows down a creative process between students.
